DMS Whittington Unit Health Fair – November 2016

Posted on Updated on

In November last year the Defence Medical Services (DMS) based at Whittington Barracks in Staffordshire invited SSBB along to attend their Unit Health Fair.

The DMS encompass the entire medical, dental, nursing, allied health professionals, paramedical and support personnel for the Army, Navy and Air force.

The primary role of the DMS is to promote, protect and restore the health of service personnel to ensure that they are ready and medically fit to go where they are required in the UK and throughout the world. Staffed by around 9,100 personnel and providing healthcare to around 160,000 UK regular forces personnel.

The Unit Health Fair was an opportunity for trainees and instructors to chat to a whole host of different local, national and military health organizations and find out more about what they do.

Dave S and Steve H attended on behalf of SSBB, taking along Blood Bike Idris, which as always proved to be a big hit with visitors who stopped to have a sit on the bike and learn more about our service.

Also on offer was the chance to complete various fitness tests, a balance test, have your BMI and blood pressure checked, as well as representatives from anti smoking and dietary health organizations, family planning, Crossfit Tamworth, and even the chance to have a sports massage!

This was a fantastic, well organized event and a great chance for us to promote our service to another audience. We really enjoyed chatting to everyone we met, and even had some interested riders.

We are very proud to support our wonderful armed forces, and look forward to the next event.
