Throughout the summer SSBB held a photography competition, encouraging supporters to send in their Blood Bikes snaps. With a 1st prize of a family photo shoot worth £150, as well as having their picture included, along with 11 runners up, in the charities 2017 calendar.
We had a fantastic response with nearly 100 photographs being submitted, by members and supporters alike, depicting our bikes and riders on duty, or supporting various fundraising and community events throughout the region.
The judging panel consisting of 4 committee members then had the tough job of choosing the best 12 and one outright winner.
But after much deliberation the winner was chosen, as a picture taken by rider Mark H, of brothers Roman and Radley trying out a blood bike for size at the Donna Louise Emergency Services Day in Longton Park back in July.
Unbeknown to Mark when he took the photograph, we had met Roman before. He had a sit on one of our mini bikes during an awareness event 18 months ago, at Royal Stoke University Hospital. Where Roman was receiving treatment for Leukaemia, and had many blood transfusions which we undoubtedly helped to deliver.
Mark generously decided to donate his 1st prize of a family photo shoot, by Darren Salisbury Photography, and a framed copy of his winning picture donated by Max Spielmann in Rugeley to Roman and his family.
Mark H and Steve H went along with a couple of our bikes to present the prizes, and it was a great pleasure to see this remarkable young man doing so well. Roman’s treatment is still ongoing, but thankfully looking very positive, and we wish him and his lovely family all the very best for the future.
The 12 winning pictures from the competition have been included in the charities 2017 calendar. The other winning pictures were taken by; Howard J, Kirk S, Katie B, Lynne P and Steve H, and we thank everyone who took part.
