As Chair of Shropshire and Staffordshire Blood Bikes I was so proud of the volunteers who took part in the National Blood Bike Awareness Day. Our riders gave up their time to visit the local hospitals that we serve generating huge interest with the public, gave radio interviews and raised awareness of the work that blood bike groups across the country carry out voluntarily every day.
Details will be published in due course, but I want to tell you more about the latter part of the day when the riders arrived at the Raven Café in Whitchurch for a BBQ organised for the SSBB members and their guests by Lynn Mills and Pete Lea from the Raven. Lynn and Pete (one of our riders) are huge SSBB supporters as are the Raven Riders. Massive thanks to Lynn and Pete for hosting this special night. They also donated £401.00 to SSBB which was the profit from the BBQ. Very generous and much appreciated. Thank you.
It was a very enjoyable evening that allowed our volunteers to socialise with members from across the three counties whom they rarely meet up with.
Other guests on the evening were members of the Oddballs MCC who have been supporters of our charity for the last two years. Ian, pictured with myself, presented yet another cheque to SSBB, this one for £500 with a promise of a further donation later in the year. As I said on the night; it is donations like these that allow us to continue to offer our services to our local hospitals and we are extremely grateful to the Oddball members for their continued support.
Fay and Colin from the Swan in Marlbury also joined us for the evening. These lovely people organised another “Whippy Cup“ in memory of the late Idris Morgan, the well loved ice cream seller from the Raven who passed away so suddenly. Colin and Fay presented us with an amazing £700 which was raised on the day. We send them huge thanks for such a generous donation and it was lovely to meet up with them again.
I wasn’t aware that there was going to be another presentation during the evening so was pretty stunned (and a tiny bit choked) when Barrie W, an SSBB member, presented me with an SSBB birthday cake from the team. Stunning looking cake and was enjoyed by many. Thank you so much.
It was the end of a very satisfying day. A great day for SSBB. I hope that all who attended enjoyed themselves and I look forward to meeting up with you all again soon.
