Walsall Adult Community College “Swapped Books For Baking” in Aid of SSBB

Posted on

Students who attend an adult learning class in Walsall, recently swapped books for baking in aid of SSBB.

The students who hail from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are studying English Speaking for Other Languages (ESOL) at Walsall Adult Community College (WACC). They cooked up a mouth-watering selection of Asian food, selling their delicacies to fellow students raising a fantastic £150.

The class are taught by our very own Jen Dixon, who is also an SSBB controller. Jen told us that the project was part of the students “Skills for Life” class and helped them to gain valuable work experience. So much so that they’re inspired to volunteer for a charity themselves now.

SSBB Fundraising Manager Lynne S and Rider Ben W went along to meet the class and show them one of the blood bikes. The ladies loved meeting them, and practicing their English, and even had a sit on the bike.

Lynne said “We are always extremely grateful when local groups go out of their way to fundraise for us, we rely completely on donations to keep our service running and every penny is extremely important to us. Thank you to everyone involved for their fantastic support”

On behalf of everyone at SSBB we would like to say a big thank you to the class, and wish them will with their studies.
