It might have been the 1st of November, but the tinted visors and shades were out as the first group of SSBB riders met at the RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry, for a familiarisation visit.
There was a certain amount of Blood Bike envy as Ben W arrived riding “Princess Carrie“, the new Triumph Trophy and the latest group bike to join the fleet. After the first refill of coffee, the access routes and collection desk were located, then it was an 18 mile ride in convoy south via the A5 to RSH Shrewsbury.
This is a familiar destination for most riders but it was useful to point out the delivery/collection points to new member Gareth B. Back on the bikes, the convoy made an impressive sight as it wound its way through Shrewsbury to the new bike storage unit on Battlefield. The final stop was at Starbucks, as Ben W reckons Princess Carrie can only do 80 miles to the cup of coffee!
Meanwhile, while we were enjoying the Saturday morning sunshine, Controller Sandy H received the FIRST “shout” from RJAH and promptly dispatched David E to make an urgent collection (#249) from Oswestry for delivery to RSH. It should be pointed out that David managed to complete the delivery without the need to refill with coffee en route!
So RJAH is ‘operational’ with another familiarisation ride planned for next Saturday for the riders who could not join us today – although sunshine cannot be guaranteed.
