Good Evening All
I hope that whatever you got up to this Bank Holiday weekend that you enjoyed yourselves. I know our volunteers who were out at three different events representing us certainly did! Here is a short report I received from Clive, our Bike Manager, who attended the Rolleston Transport Festival which sums up the atmosphere and spirit of the event.
Today (Monday 26th May) was the 6th annual running of the Rolleston Transport Festival and probably their best yet. Over 150 assorted vehicles, from bikes to cars, buses to lorries were in attendance, whereby one of the main streets in the village is closed for the day and vehicles and owners exhibit their vehicles to the public.
Always friendly and a typical English scene with people picnicking along the banks of the picturesque brook, all bringing baskets of food which is shared out. We had an excellent position on the Main Street right by the entrance to the local club, so we had plenty of tea, bacon sandwiches and clean toilets!
The collection buckets received an incredibly generous £250, for which we are hugely grateful and SSBB are also in line for a donation from the festival organisers, as we are one of the nominated local charities. Hopefully we’ve also attracted some more members, but certainly some wonderful awareness was raised!
Thanks also to everyone who helped and came to speak to us. Clive.
As you can see, it was a great day and we were incredibly pleased to have been invited. We had such an impact that, by the end of the day, even the local vicar, Ivan, couldn’t resist becoming a Bloodbiker, if only for a few minutes!
Finally, at the end of the day, I was made aware that Betsy Ice Cream, who were selling their wonderful produce at the event, have made a donation to SSBB equivalent to 10% of the profits from the day. This is an extremely kind gesture and we thank you very much for this!
